What gorgeous portraits! I don't do much in graphite so I don't have a lot I can share. Do you have Photoshop by chance? If you do you might try playing with the color curve adjustment. It will brighten whites and darken the grays. You can also some of this with levels.

These are excellent. The last one looks like my dog Buster who sadly passed away last March. He was such a character. I really miss him!
Though the posting was not satisfactory compared to the original I can feel the mood and admire the works. Wonderful!
Have you tried to scan them than taking pictures?
Oh Pat, these drawings are amazing! Being an animal lover, I just look at these and my heart melts. What a gift you have!
