Dana Point, California USA

These were from a few days ago when I went to Dana Point, California to paint. It is one of my favorite beaches. It’s not a swimming beach, the beach slopes fast dropping very deep just past where the waves break. It seems like the waves break right in front of you, almost like they will break over your head but then just stop when the wave hits the sand and pulls back into the deep water. It’s magnificent, dynamic and full of so much energy that when I first sit down after all the schlepping of painting gear and prep I just have to sit for a while and breathe in the show.

Beautiful paintings!! My oh my! And wonderful spot to sit and watch too!! You're luky to live in such beautiful surroundings! ... and I see you too paint on this mysterious YUPO paper I heard about on another American blog... I can't wait to try it as well! Who knows, I might find some in France when I go back in June...?
I just love your different versions! I suppose you could paint it for hours! But don't worry I won't get bored, right on the contrary!!

I can feel the soft breeze, listen to the waves crashing against the rocks and see you painting in communion with nature. Wonderful picture, Pat!.
I just wanted to ask you something, I've been reading about Yupo recently but don't know what a difference it makes. Is it a brand name? I have never heard of it in Europe. Thanks, Pat. Have a lovely day!

Wow! Such a beautiful place! I'm not sure I'd have gotten any painting done -- I would have been to mesmerized by the waves and the sea!

Love all the energy you've captured in your yupo pieces. The graphite and arches piece seem to have a quiet power to them - very moving all the more because of the quietness.

Awesome paintings! You must have had a wonderful time. I like how you have captured the energy of the water so well. It instantly activates my memories of visits to the coast.
